Question

The Member for Mathioya (Hon. (Dr.) Edwin Gichuki, MP) to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry: - Could the Cabinet Secretary – (i) provide a report on the number of individuals recruited as forest rangers, forest assistants and foresters per Constituency following the national wide recruitment exercise carried out on 8th March 2023 and explain whether the staff recruited met the targeted number that the Ministry intended to recruit? Are there plans to recruit more staff progressively? (ii) clarify whether the criteria used in the recruitment exercise ensured regional balance in sub-county levels as well curbing intra-county marginalization in cosmopolitan counties and further explain why in Mathioya Constituency, qualified, highly motivated and much deserving locals were not considered? (iii) state the steps that the Ministry is undertaking to ensure the Country attains 30% forest cover by 2032?
